About Heiton Steel
Heiton Steel is the largest Irish-owned steel stockholder in Ireland with a dedicated stock centre in Ashfield on the Naas Road and supplies a full range of quality steel products to the industrial and construction industries.
The business was established originally as a coal importer. It diversified in the early 1900’s adding an ‘Iron’ department that would grow to become Heiton Steel.
The Ashfield site, purchased in 1971, was a vast improvement on the cramped and old fashioned premises in Georges Quay where there was no possibility of expansion or indeed automated handling of large loads.
Our custom built warehouse on our 15 acres site incorporates all our present day services, including the supply of Plates, Fencing, Reinforcing, Structural Sections, Tubing, Walkway and Weldmesh.
The steel department has further expanded into our regional steel stockholding businesses, located on the Heiton Buckley sites at Cork, Waterford, Limerick, Ballinasloe, Castlebar, Sligo and Letterkenny.
The bolt-on expansion of our Cut & Bent section in the late 70’s, followed by our Shot blasting plant in 2005 completes the picture so far.
Steel is a commodity that fluctuates considerably in availability and in price. Using the buying power of the Grafton Group and the experience of the Steel Director, Chris Kilkenny, we optimise our position by purchasing steel at its best prices, while maintaining our stock levels to enable us to meet demand.
The introduction of Test Certification has resulted in the need of every bar of steel having its own certified mill test report – effectively a guarantee that ensures traceability and protects all parties. Heiton Steel source all our steel from reputable mills, the majority being European and this enables us to be fully compliant with legislation.
A full time team of 35 people, based on the Naas Road, plus dedicated staff within other branches, are key in the current success of Heiton Steel and we are proud of our involvement in major projects nationwide and our contribution within the group.
